Since it is a required text(in the college piano classes),and because of that way overpriced, I think at the very least publishers could have chosen a better quality covers - they are thin and perforated edges(where rings are inserted) start ripping apart after a about a month of daily usage. I had to make my own covers from thick carboard and glue original ones on top. As far as book content goes, I think it is pretty good - nicely layed out topics, beautiful pieces to play. The only flaw would be(as our teacher pointed out), that it doesn't include many pieces for the very beginning - she had to give her own handouts for those. CD could be better - you get idea for the notes played, but pieces are played very dry - no musicality at all. And with some other instruments in the background which are disturbing to hear the piano part.Update: I went to Kinkos and had custom covers made out of thick plastic sheets(they just had black color)- it cost just 10 dollars for two books - I should have had them made right away, this way real covers would have been nice and safe inside.
Glad I purchased this book instead of renting. We do a lot of the worksheets inside and it is so much easier to write in the book itself. Also its the same book I need for my Piano 2 class next semester so its a win win situation one book for two classes lol
This textbook is huge as well, however this textbook was required by my music professor and I'm glad that I got book cheaper than the bookstore at my campus. I like the binding of the platic comb. It seems like this book can last me a life time, if I take good care of it. Nice book with assignments, theory, techniques, and more. The book is true to its colors.
Piano teacher requested this book for class and I learned a lot. After class was over I try to finish lessons we didn't cover. but you need a teacher to explain it!It is very difficult to understand when learning on your own, specially when you are a beginner.
This book was used for my Piano Techniques class. It's a great book to study piano for beginners. I started with little to no experience on the piano and using this book has helped me grow. I can't say that it was just the book, but my instructor helped too. That doesn't mean that someone can just buy this book and still be as successful as me without an instructor. It comes with a CD to play examples. It's a great book!!!
I love this book! I had played piano for 2 years as a boy, but I had dropped it to play the viola. So when I heard I would have to take piano as a course in College, I almost died. A group piano class? Really? But, then when I got this book, I realized that this is no normal 1+1=2 textbook. This takes you step by step and leads you very calmly into learning how to coordinate your two hands. My professor loves this book because she calls it her companion book, and I can say the same thing!Great purchase! If you're buying for a college class, buy it, don't rent it! This textbook can be used for several years in college.
